Marantz 2270 uneven phono sound....

Dear All,
I have a recently required 2270 that has been "almost entirely recapped" by it's previous owner, who claimed to be an electronic tech. Certainly the main power caps are indeed new, I didn't take it apart in detail to find out more....

On line and tape inputs (incl digital sources) it sounds super sweet, just great. But on phono, the L channel sounds great but the R is thin, harsh and brash in comparison.

Turntable is a Thorens TD160 mk1 with Nagaoka MP110. I have done all I can to set it up properly and even some basic mods like a heavy base board. Cartridge should be well set up too. I don't have another receiver available right now to check the turntable with....

What do you reckon? A dodgy cap on the phono board? If so would the Phono 2 channel on the receiver be through the same input?

Are there any "usual suspects" to check on the phono board?

First test if you have not already done it, switch the left and right phono interconnects at the receiver and see if the issue changes channels.

This should help in determining if the issue is with the turn table or the receiver.

Kind of a common sense first step, but I hadn't thought of it. So thanks a lot for that! Very helpful
