marantz 2285b aux light HELP

I have a Marantz 2285b I am restoring and I came across these weird black cylinder lights that on a normal receiver just had a 8v light in place of. Can anyone tell me what these are called or where I can purchase these? Because I am stumped and can’t find it anywhere And I’m really trying to restore my receiver.

On the schematic, they are on the PY01 board, the red parts are LED lamps which don't generally burn out. The black pieces are plastic standoffs to situate the LEDs in the dial holes designed for them.

I'd just leave them alone if they work.

Thanks for the info Tom. Unfortunately all of them are burnt out and I need to replace them. Any idea where to get them?

If they are LED's, they don't burn out! L.E.D. stands for Light Emitting Diode and they don't have filaments.

It sounds like the circuit that drives them is faulty. Maybe a fuse??

In the unlikely event that they are bad and you cannot find new ones that fit, a donor receiver may be your only choice.
There are thousands of different LED devices to choose from, I don't have a direct replacement part number.

Okay thanks for the advice. I guess where I’m confused is I see everyone selling lamp kits etc for the 2285b. But they all are using the 8v lamps. But with the 2285b the little black cylinder has the red light in it but it’s connected inside the light. So if you need to replace the red lights then regular lamps wouldn’t work. Any thoughts? Idk if all 2285b have these weird lights or not

Have you checked the voltage going to the lamps?
Like ct mentioned above, maybe it's a fuse.

Yeah the board and voltage are fine. I soldiered in a 8v lamp to test it too and the lamp worked fine the red leds are just burnt

Had a little search, these LEDs are Marantz part number SPL-132p. Obviously this is no longer available from them, but a previous poster had the same problem as you. This thread should help you find what you need (although the links may not work, you'll have to search the relevant website yourself).

That info helped a lot the red led you linked might work! See the problem is with the 2285b it needs the black cylinders with the red light in it so that the light won’t bleed to other areas. I’ve restored a lot of other Marantz receivers And they all are built the same except this 2285b which has the black cylinder led. With the others I’ve done (2325,2220b,2330 etc) they simply just had a normal 8v bulb in place. That’s why I’m so thrown off with this. Also I couldn’t find the light you linked to save my life lol

Can the cylinder be separated from the LED?

Yes, the led is just glued into the cylinder. Although the led is a smaller pin shape that goes into the aux, am, fm etc spots. Do you know of any shaped like that?

I don't, but it looks like the dimensions of the LED are 2mmx8.3mm. I'd guess that you could go down to about 7mm height without much difficulty. I'd try the various electronics retailers online and see what you can find.

The one you linked me might actually work well because it will fit in the cylinder preventing light bleeding and will light up the red bulb

Hello, an update that the mentioned pin LEDS do fit perfect although, I can not get the whole light bar (aux, FM, AM, phone etc) to light up. I tested it and when the receiver is set on AM, FM or FM25us the voltage starts to increase slowly until it reaches 250mv. Then if I turn it to phono1, phono2 or aux the voltage decreases constantly to basically nothing. Even with these voltage fluctuations the lights do not power up. Any idea on what could be wrong?? A side note that the bar did light up before along with the stereo light.
