This post is meant to help others searching for info on 2285B cases like I was. The 2265B is a similar design and this might apply to that unit as well.

When i purchased my 2285B a few years ago it came with a WC-22 case and no metal cover. I contacted the seller to see if they had the metal cover and was told that is the way they got it. I started checking sales and other pics of 2285B's and noticed that the ones with wood cases and showed the receiver removed never had metal covers shown but the ones without wood cases had them. So it seemed to me that the 2285B must of been sold with wood cases as an option and didn't come with metal covers but I couldn't find any info on it. I finally verified it though a couple members that had bought them that way new back in the day with wood case and no metal cover. Mine is the European model that switches between 120/220V. I didn't ask if theirs were so maybe only those came with the cases but that's something i still need to find out so if anyone knows please reply.
The manual says the after market Wood Case for the 2285B is the WC-122 which is a three piece case, the WC-22 that came with the receiver was made for it as the cut outs on the bottom are different then on standard WC-22 cases. Both the amp boards on the 2285B and are on one side and not on both as the other 22XX models so there is only one big cut out on one side of the bottom for venting.
I did find a metal cover for mine, it was from a 2238B so that cover will fit. The metal cover is needed with the WC-122 as it does not come with a grill.

This is how i got it with the WC-22

I actually like the look of that series Marantz receivers without the cabinet just as well. The older (2230, 2270, ect) series I prefer with a cabinet. I leave my 2252B and 2285B cabinetless.

On a side note, older WC-22 from say 2275 and before will fit the 2285B. IIRC, the front feet holes line up but the rear feet do not and require drilling. Easy enough. The OP is correct, the 2285B did come with WC-22 and with metal cover deleted. Metal cover will fit under WC-22 just like the older models.

The WC-22 original vent holes on the bottom are different but it doesnt look like it would be to big of an issue to use it like that, but i dont really know.
On the WC-22 - modified for 2285B the receiver is secured by the 2 center holes using screws with star washers ( mine is on now and in the rack so when i decide to put the WC-122 back on i will update with a pic )

is the cover black on your 2285B the one i got for mine is black but it came from a 2238B so im just assuming thats the way that series was.

Yes, as far as I know, that later series came with black covers instead of the plastic woodgrain wrap. My 2275 has a black cover though, so maybe they started switching over during that model run.

I have a 2265B European model and it has the WC-22 and no metal cover. The feet are screwed in exactly the same and with the cutout on the bottom. I was told that they could be had in that configuration, but no idea if it was a euro-only thing or not.

I also had a 2330B Euro model with the larger wooden case (forget the model number) and it too did not have a metal cover on it.

I've seen a few for sale where folks question if the case is factory or not because likely they've not seen this configuration before.

Yeap … I have a European model in wood case ( bought at the PX in Germany).. never came with a cover. Just curious , Why did replace your WC-22 - it looks pretty good in the pic?

i didnt replace it thats what i have it in right now, i rotate it about every year with the WC-122. i had found a metal cover and when the NOS WC-122 came along i couldnt resist. i have a bunch of WC-22 on my other receivers so the WC-122 is a nice change.
