The guy that makes new ones offers absolutely beautiful ones but they are about $60 more. I was about ready to order one from him when I found this one. I had been looking for a while.
 
Hadn't seen that. I just click the bookmark and away I go. It's been there for years and years- right under the one for AK.

The 2225 is a unique low production model in the 22XX Series. It is unique in that eventhough it is a lower wattage model it is a Dual Rail Direct Coupled amplifier. The second and most important is that other than the high wattage 2270 it is the only other 22XX with the wonderful 4-gang tuner, which is far superior to the 3-gang found in all others below the 2270.

I have 3 22xx series Marantz receivers, 2238 , 2245 and 2275.
The 2238 is my favorite of the 3. It was my first Marantz product and is a true sleeper. Has that classic marantz sound and rated at 38 watts x 2 but behaves more like a 60 watt x 2 unit.

That seems like a fantastic price! I don't know the difference between that and what I have, a 2270, but it's at least around the same wattage and I've seen 2270s go for $2k or more (though who knows if they actually sold for that much).

I haven't really done a lot of comparisons so I can't really say exactly how well 2270 rates in the grand scheme of things, but I like it enough that I can't imagine replacing it and since I kind of have a rule about not stockpiling gear I'm not using, it will likely be the last amp I ever buy. That kind of thing I feel is a real advantage; knowing that there's no reason to obsesses about upgrading the thing (because that's never going to happen!). I have other audio gear that I'm totally satisfied with and probably will never upgrade, but that I could at least imagine upgrading... but not so with the 2270. There's just something about that thing...
 
In my collection I have a 2215b, a 2226, a 2240 and a 2275. They are all set up in different systems and I use them all regularly.

The 2240 is paired with Marantz Imperial 6s and it has the wood case. (I actually have the original box, manual, Styrofoam and faceplate protector for it too.)

I also have Imperial 5s running as the "Remote" speakers on my 2275.

Been a Marantz enthusiast for about 20 years and have owned a lot of different models of the 22xx receivers in that time. The 2245 is the one I wish I would have held on to, though. Something very special about those things.
 
Have a 2215b and the transformer seems to run quite warm after a good few hrs of play , usually around 43/44 degs c but was around 46/7 when last measured on a warmer day ,is this a normal temp for this model?
