So Im in a position right now to buy a Marantz 2330b from a guy who inherited it and knows nothing about it. It has been in a climate controlled storage since the early 90s. Cosmetically almost perfect. Powers on but no sound. Im in the middle of a negotiation that went from cash to now trade of an item of mine that is worth around 600, a hunting rifle I never use. Im a vintage gear enthusiast but know little in repair but learning. I have been looking for a nice Marantz of this caliber to replace my Pioneer sx 980. Why do I want it? I sampled my friends Marantz setup and fell in love and also would like a little more power for my own set up. I guess my question hear is would you roll the dice? I have a place hear in New Orleans that could service it. Its more than likely beyond my skill level to try and repair on my own. He is a few hours drive from me but Im willing. What is yalls experience in similar situations? What kind of blind estimate costs could we calculate here? Should I pull the trigger? I feel yes with a slight after taste of no.
