Marantz 24 preamp/tuner "preceiver": any 70s SS equivalents?

Hi,

I'm looking for a Marantz 24 preamp/tuner ("preceiver") to run into my main amp (Parasound HCA1000a). I'd like to consider some other options before I buy, but it seems like as far as 70s SS stuff goes, the "tuner/preamp" combo is relatively rare. The only other similar beast I can identify is the McIntosh MX-112, and that's a bit pricey for me at this point.

(I'm looking for something 16" wide or less, which is part of the reason this particular Marantz unit appeals to me right now.)

Can anyone think of any similar/equivalent 70s SS preceiver unit?

The Nakamichi 630 is a gorgeous beast! There are lots of other McIntosh MX units:

I had an MX 130 which I liked a lot. The only weakness was HD radio noise on my favorite station. From a home theater viewpoint, it was obsolete, but that should help lower the price in your favor. If you can find a quality receiver with preamp outputs, that would do the job. The best bargains in audio are obsolete Home Theater receivers.

Adcom made some "GTP" tuner-preamp units. The tuner market is very depressed; I recommend you consider a separate tuner and preamp.

I'll look into the Nakamichi, thanks!

Sony STC -7000 Probably won't make the 16 inch requirement, but that will make your search very difficult.

I spoke about the 630 with Stephen Sank of Talking Dog transducer in Tucson, who has serviced many Nakamichis. The 630 does include some fragile connectors. If you get one, it would be best to buy with return privileges.

The Sony posted above would be a big step up from the Marantz model 24.
And I'm a huge Marantz fan. The tuner in the Marantz is a model 23 tuner. Not a great tuner. The preamp section is also just so-so. It's kind of bland sounding IMHO.

Many thanks for the suggestions, folks. I ended up finding the Marantz I was looking for at a good price. I understand it may not be up to par with some of the other units suggested here, but it's simply intended to be a second-string preamp (to my Glassware Aikido) to just have fun with.
