I've got a 250 that has blue VU meter lenses installed and as a result the transmitted light (new white LED bulbs already installed) from the meters is pretty dim. The right one was pushed in a little as can be seen in the photo, have fixed that since the pic taken. Are these blue plastic VU meter lenses original?

Before restoration pic showing blue tint. Post repair with warm white LED. You get a bit of a spot more evident on camera then to the eye.

Thwts odd. when I replaced the burned out bulbs in two model 140's, I had to angle the LEDs so that the meters were bright enough. I'm sure you've fiddled with the angle though. Maybe try bright white LED lamps instead of the warm or cool ones if thats what you used?

These are bayonet type bulbs, so no angle adjustment. I've done the same as you on the fuse type LED bulbs though. Did order some 100 lumen bright white LED bulbs. The ones I installed last week were warm white 70 lumen LED bulbs.

I had a model 16 that used two bi-pin bulbs with the leads stuck into sockets. One of the bulbs were out. I replaced them with bright LED Bi-pin bulbs and they were still dimmer than the incandescent bulbs. The display on the 16 is a little dim to begin with, but you could barely see the that the
"Sixty rms Sixty" was lit up. Hopefully those brighter LED's you ordered do a better job than the warm ones.

I remember a client of mine came to pick up something I repaired for him and when he came he brought a Marantz 250 that needed new lamps. We found that the incandescent lamps were brighter than the LED's.

Yes, the 16's nameplate is super dim!

Yup. And I tried leaving the leads longer to get them deeper into the display, but that didn't even work. The bulb has to be closer to the back of the bulb opening to illuminate the white back piece. It was just a poor design. Nice sounding little mono blocks though.

These 100 lumen white LED bayonet bulbs (left side) made a huge difference over the 70 lumen warm white LED bayonet bulbs (right side). VU meter lighting now looks like it should to my eyes. The camera washed out the difference a little.
