marantz 250 meter help

Hello marnatz friends,
I am having a hard time finding a meter for the 250 power amp. I know that we have been warned not to post WTP or For Sale ads in the forum, so I went and placed an ad in the proper place.
My question: can a different Marantz meter be used in place of the meter for the 250?

No - unfortunately the 250 meters are only for....250's. No other amp from Marantz or elsewhere has those meters. You gotta keep on searching...:yes:

Thanks Freddy. I assumed as much but I am new to the Power Amp game and I did not know. Hopefully one will turn up. This thing is mint aside from the faulty meter. I'd love to restore it to health.
 
Did you try taking it apart and cleaning it
with a q-tip? Sometimes they get gummed
up (the lubricant in the shaft of the display
needle causes it to get stuck. My friend has
a Phase Linear 400 and it was stuck for 20
years until I cleaned and re-lubed it with deoxit
Fader lube. It's been working flawlessly since then.
Hopefully that will fix yours. :scratch2:
 
Have you checked continuity of the meter itself? I just fixed a meter in my hitach hma-8500 mkii, the adjustment was stuck causing the meter to stick.
 
Try taking it apart and clean the shaft of the
display needle with a Q-tip and some deoxit
Fader lube. My friend has a Phase Linear 400
amp with the dual meters in it and the left one
hadn't worked for 20 years and after a good
cleaning it's been working for almost 4 years
now. This happens to a lot of meters. The lube
gets gummy and creates resistance then it just
sticks. Most people replace them and all they need
Is a good clean and lube. Hope this helps.

That is a damn fine idea and it is well worth a try. I have not attempted that but I plan on giving it a go first thing in the morning. Thanks for throwing your experience into the discussion.

I have done very little prelims on it. This is a simple re-con mission.

By the way, what do you think of that 8500?

I forgot to tell you that the needle is very delicate, so be very, very careful
Not to damage it. Just the lightest touch is all you need. I wish I could do the
repair for you. I love Marantz gear. I got 4 receivers: 2252 ( full Super bright blue LED upgrade and I placed LED's shining on the gyro as well, top and bottom, with a computer fan on the heat sink, and it has been fully rebuilt and bench tested with the bias set to spec.) a MR-255(rebadged 1550) fully tested and adjusted to spec.) a 2218 (getting recapped for my son) and a 2015 with all the bells and whistles done to it like the 2252.

Good luck with the meter. Let me know how it goes. :yes:

The meter sprung to life....IT LIVES!!!!! Thanks for your suggestion.
Also, what has your experience been with the pc fan? I have a buddy that swears by it but I am reluctant to experiment.

I've been busy and haven't had time to check this thread. Man, I sure am glad you fixed the meter! It's Alive!!! Good Job! The computer fan I use for the heatsink works perfect and has for 5 years now. I have it wired in to the lamp wires from the power supply. Make sure the fan is an AC and not a DC
fan, and it needs to be brushless. It will run at approx. half speed, due to the marantz's lamp supply voltage is around 6-7 volts AC. And that's perfect because
you can't here it when it comes on, unless you place your ear right next to it.
