Marantz 250 Restoration recommendation

Hey all,

I recently acquired a nice Marantz 250 amplifier.. I have a feeling this one is worthy of a full restoration!
Which leads to my question.. Who is the go-to guy for restoring the 250 amp? I'm really looking for
someone who's restored several of them and is highly regarded. I've read a lot about Bob Speece on here, that he is the 250 Guru, but I understand that he is MIA.. I hope he is OK. I ran into a situation with a Scott repair guy that had my 222 for 8 months.. eventually had it shipped back to me with no repairs done.. I do not want to go through that again..
My goal is to have this 250 restored with all the service bulletins done and any known weaknesses addressed, preferably by someone that has restored several of these 250's with great results.
I live in SoCal.. it would be great to find a local tech to do it, but also I'm ok with shipping it if it's done right..
Hoping some of you Marantz guys could recommend the best!

Thanks!
Joe

Bob is poised for a comeback. I’ll let you know when he’s done with mine

Great news! Thanks for responding! I would really like to go to Bob if he’s up and running again and it’s not gonna take eight months to get my 250 back! Keep me posted and thank you!!

Thanks again Audiobeer! I know every amp wil be different as far as what it will need done, but do you have a rough idea of what Bob charges ?

thanks

I'd probably read some of the resto thread here to get an idea of some of the know failures and steps to fix the amp. I've fixed a few and most have similar issues but they can take some time to find and solve. I'm sure fixing a few has helped.

good luck with your decision. they are great amps.
