Marantz 250M with 3300 or 3600 or 3800?

Hi All - hope you guys are staying safe!

I just recently joined this forum, and I'm based in Indonesia.

I just entering the world of hifi - thanks to my father, and recently acquired Marantz 250M and 3300, which is now sitting nicely in my room.

After several research, I realized that the matching pre-amp for 250M is actually 3600 or 3800.
however based on several ppl opinion, the 3300 sounds better compared to those two.

So - should I trade my 3300 with either matching pre-amps, or my current combo is actually better?

If it's not too much, I would like to also know the lists of parts I should have to have this recapped, a Digikey or Mouser list would be fine I could find equivalent in my local store.

Many thanks in advance and have a good weekend!

All three sound great, but the 3600 and the 3800 have hard to find integrated circuits that make them more difficult and expensive to repair.

Many thanks for your reply Tom!

so it wouldn't be a problem if I use 3300 with 250M instead of 250? will the sound affected in any way?

I can't think of any ICs aside from the dolby ones that are hard to deal with, it's fairly easy to mod in modern op amps to both of the Preamplifier stage ones

Stay put.

This is great news!
I would be interested to know what you use for the RC4194 voltage regulator and the F749PC amplifier IC.
The output relay is also difficult to find.

Tom
The F749PC has been easily replaced with a OPA2134 IC, in my experience and actually sounds better (in my opinion) than the original. The power IC is still unobtanium, but I am personally yet to come across a dead one and have connections where necessary. My last 3800 underwent a conversation from 749PC to OPA2134 and sounds absolutely fantastic

I'd say stay with what you have too. I'd cross off the 3800 as it's a 3600 with Dolby circuitry added. That is unless you have some Dolby encoded reel to reel tapes and have a deck that doesn't have Dolby. Then again you could just turn down the treble a bit if that's the case.

I've had both the 3600 and 3800 and they're both great units but I kept the 3800 because the Dolby circuits when engaged can suppress hissing on mediocre FM station reception. Plus I like the looks of the 3800 better.

hi, im looking for a selector switch bank or the phono 1 switch, for my marantz 3800. Does anyone know of a source for one? Please let me know, and have a great one
