That is not a silly price on CL. Don't confuse an Ebay price with a CL price.
I knew some guy who talks a mile a minute who bought one in the early 90's from a pawn shop for $150. He put it on Ebay apparently with little experience, and panicked when the price had not gone beyond a few hundred dollars, with about 5 minutes to go on the auction. So the dummy accepted an offer of $500.
I told him several times before he even listed it that he could get between $1500-$2000 easy. Did he listen? :rolleyes:

The picture is a web pic at best this ad is NOT real imho!
Maybe they should have stated that this is NOT the actual picture?
 
Fishy maybe, but I'd give a call -- ya never know. If it is real, it's beyond an excellent price, even on CL; if it were in my city I'd have inquired for sure. That's pretty close to theft for a functioning 2600.

CL pricing in some markets seems to be pretty close to ebay pricing on most quality pieces of gear. Sure, there are bargains on CL, but the nice gear here is regularly priced close to top dollar.

Who said it must be an actual picture on Craigslist? On Craigslist I post a generic picture because I expect the buyer will come and see for himself. If they ask for additional pictures, I refer them to Google (polite way of asking to get lost). Because I don’t want to expose my house on Craigslist.

eBay is a different story.
 
I just talked to the guy he has no idea what a 2600 is someone must be playing a joke here.
 
Even on eBay actual pictures of the items are not required and, as we all know, Craigslist is much more lax than eBay when it comes to rules.

There are many people selling things on CL that don't know what they have, so sometimes things come up for a ridiculous price. Unless you are interested in the item yourself, I suggest not flagging anything because you think it's suspicious unless you've already talked to the seller. After all, you could be flagging something that someone could've scored for cheap.
 
This is the second marantz 2600 listing in Birmingham in the last few months (pretty sure the first was a sham listing as well, unless someone knows otherwise) - somebody has figured out these can cause excitement.
