Marantz 3200 pre? 7T?

I'm interested in acquiring a vintage transistor Marantz preamp for use with a good, modern amp (B&K Sonata EX440; 200 wpc; dual mono). Thoughts on how a recapped 3200 or 7T would sound with that amp vs. the B&K Sonata Pro 10MC with which it is typically paired? Other recommendations for a vintage Marantz trans pre? Thanks!

I have no idea how it would pair with the EX 440, in comparison with the Pro 10MC, but I'd recommend the 3650 if you are looking for a nice, musical and clear-sounding Marantz preamp that will match well with a range of amps (vintage or modern). I think it is the nicest solid state preamp that Marantz made, plus it has a very flexible and good-sounding phono stage built in.
 
I would look into impedance mismatching with those preamps. You amp most likely has an input impedance of 20-30k. And the amps that match to those usually are in the 150k and up range. What you would end up hearing is a rolled off lack luster sound.

The 3650 or 3250 may be your better option.
 
The 7T can drive 600 Ohm load with no issue ( think headphones )....and drives my 500 which is 33K ohms....

Couldn't agree more.
The 3650 is fantastic. I did a test once. Played my 300DC with the 3650 connected and then without the 3650 connected. Same selections and volume level. No difference. The 3650 is that quiet.
They are rare and can be expensive.
I had a neighbor who had the 7T. It was noisy.
 
You know just a thought, try a NAD C326BEE's preamp section on those amps. I have to say that I've used mine on several occasions and it's an amazing sounding preamp. And it has an amp section if you ever need it. Look for a used one to try out.

But beware if it has a repair history.
