Marantz 3600 - Recap information

Hi there!

I had the project to recap my Marantz 3600 since a few years ago and today is the day!

To make it easier, I ordered a recap kit on Ebay with all the necessary.

Rubycon caps, Nichicon caps and films caps was in the package. The follow caps has been replaced with the same uF value but high V value except two at the end :

C101, 102, 105, 106

C201, 202, 223, 224, 225, 226

C219, 220 (1 uF 250V Film caps)

C232, 231

C245, 246

C247, 248, 249, 250, 263, 264, 277 and 278 (0.1uF 250V Film caps)

C255, 256 ( 0,22uF 250V Film caps)

C265, 266, 269, 270 (0.027uF 400V Film caps)

C291, 292

C294, 295

C296, 297

C299, 300 (Film Caps, changed 0,15 uF 100V to 0,22uF 250V by following the instructions)

The C289 doesn't exist in my 3600 and is listed as "NOT USED" in the manual but needed to be replaced by following my instructions ??

In my instructions, it's saying C296, 297 are 47uF / 50V but one original is 25V 100uF and the other is 50uF / 50V. I changed the 25V 100uF with the same value and the 50uF / 50V to 47 uF / 50V (manual says 47uF / 50V).

But there is some missing parts for : C207, 208, 261, 262 and 290 - 25V 22 uF. I will proceed to an order.

What is the best caps I can use ? I can see Nichicon ES Muse that seems be a good choise, but is there any other good ones?

I can see there is a few other film caps. Do I need to replaced them? Or only the "can caps" are needed to be replaced?

I have some Diodes and Transistor included. Does it worth it to replace them or not?

If there is any recommendations that I need to concider for this Marantz 3600, let me know!

Return the kit. Order your own - you said it yourself - it's missing parts.

You should be doing the opamp mod as well.

opamp mod, interesting. First time I hear that. Is there any tuto on how to do so? It is only a swap of the current one or there is other DYI things to do?

I believe it sounds better after all, but I don't know at which point the improvement is.

Ya, the arcane factory op amp used is pretty much unobtanium. If it fails, and they have, you will have to do the mod anyway. You might as well do it while your recapping it.

Thank you for this link. It's noted for the opamp. Let's say I'm less confortable to do this mod ahahah. What will be the symptoms when the opamp will fail? When I will have no choice to do so, I will jump in.

I successfully recaped the unit with the missing parts I mentionned above. I replaced the last two white caps that was still the old ones with Panasonic 5600pf 630V to make it identical with the rest.

There was a main reason for the recap, I have a rumble sound in one channel and I was hopping that recap will help but it's not. There was a few blown caps anyway in the 3600 unit.

If you can recap, you can add jumpers for the op-amps. It's worth the 5 minutes.

Not a fan of the axials being replaced by radicals.

I'd also be replacing all the transistors.
