Marantz 3800 Balance slider knob broken end

Hi All.

I have a Marantz 3800 pre-amp that has a common problem among Marantz equipment of that vintage. The balance slider knob protrudes enough to slide it back and forth but not enough to attach a knob since the end is broken off. Short of replacing the slider control in the unit any creative ways any of you have fixed this problem so a knob can be re-attached?
