Marantz 4060 quad amp

to my surprise, I couldn't find a single post mentioning the Marantz 4060 quad amp. I guess it must be rare. Does anyone have any knowledge of this unit? Sure is purdy.

I heard you can switch these Marantz quad amps from 4 channel to 2 channel. How does the sound on these quads in 2 channel compare to Marantz amps in general? I love the way this units looks but would it be foolish to get a quad amp if I don't plan on using it in 4 channels very often?

I almost bought a 4070 couple of years ago. I agree that and the 4060 in a wood case sure are pretty. Those models are the same size as the smaller 1060 integrated amp. It would make a cool stack with a similar sized 112 tuner.

You heard my 4140 quad in 2 channel at the Sacto Fest. I had the 4100 and it sounded nearly identical. I haven't heard the 4060 or other Marantz quads so I can't comment specifically on them. But my limited impression is that the quads sound very similar to like sized receiver, even in 4 channels. For example my 4140 (70 wpc in 2 channel) sounds a lot like the 2265B and 2275.

A 4 channel Marantz, while not the best sounding quad, is very versatile and I love the sound. I've used it as a mixer with 2 sets of completely different sounding speakers by creating a staggered array and messing with the seperate tone and balance controls. I love the results!

Carl, I remember your 4140 well. One of the most attractive marantz units I've ever seen...and the sound! Would love to get my hands on one of those. Can't beat 4 blue glowing VU meters!

Looks like the 4060 is 30wpc (in 2 channel) just like the 1060 and 2230. Since I've heard so many good things about the sound of the 1060 and 2230, I was wondering if it then stands to reason the 4060 would sound as good. Anyone know if the 4060 has similar internal components to the 1060 and 2230?
 
Sounds like what I sold to my friend; 15 wpc in quad. Had to replace the power switch. He's got it in his huge shed running some big 3-ways. If you try to crank it real loud ,you can hear it distort. Below that, it sounds real good; not exactly a critical listening situation. Its got a 110 tuner with it; you can turn the amp off & it will keep playing for 5-6 seconds.
 
If you bridge to two channel, one is warned to use 8 ohm speakers only - avoid 4 ohms.

The 4100 I traded to Carl was a pretty machine. Gotta love FOUR big blue VU meters.
 
Would one say that its not the "best sounding quad" because of its decoding or amplification? Rumor has it even the SQ-2B decoder is "harsh".
