Marantz 4070

Hi there,
I recently acquired a Marantz Model 4070 Quadraphonic Quad Amp. It powers up, but has very noisy output through speaker & headphone out. Overall in decent shape, but missing one knob for balance control.
I'm not sure what I would even do with it if repaired...maybe use as a pre-amp or something?
Are these worth repairing or just part it out?
Thanks

Generally speaking, they are worth the repair cost. Of course, this depends on cost of repair - doing it yourself is less expensive, paying a tech who makes his living on this work will be more expensive and occasionally, prohibitively expensive. I wouldn't use it as a half-unit - either all or nothing for me.

I haven't heard that model, but it looks like a nice unit, I'd be repairing it. I have no idea on part-out value.

Thanks Dingman. I have done well with other Marantz gear, including a 2252B receiver I just sold last week. I'm just not familiar with the 4070 Quad thing, and don't know if there is really any demand for it, or is the name recognition enough for collectors. :dunno:
I'm at work now, but if I remember correctly, you can run it two channel mode at 35w x2 or quad at 15w x4...not really a powerhouse haha

Have 1....Opened the cover and put it back on. Never saw a piece of gear that was so Stuffed. Mine is working but if something goes....:yikes:

Quad has a following still (not as big as 2 channel but still folks searching it out), but unless you live in a larger city, epay will probably be your best bet if you decide to sell it. Marantz is an attractive name to a lot of buyers right now, so that should help your cause.

I will probably offer it up for parts or repair if there is an interest. I'm kind of funny when it comes to audio gear like that...if I can't see myself ever using it, then my motivation to repair is minimal, but I also hate to see quality vintage gear just thrown in the scrap heap which is where this was headed before I brought her home.

Hello, I just picked up a near mint Marantz 4070, and I am looking for the USER and Service Manuals - please message me if you can help. Thanks.
