Hi All,

this is my firs post :) Recently we moved into a bigger flat and was able to change my audio system for a better one. I bought a 4270 with Pinoeer HPM-900 in the front and Grundig Hifi Box 500 in the rear. I've never dealt with the quadraphonic sound but started to read about it now that i have this amplifier. I really like Pink Floyd and thinking about listening to the DSOTM quad mix album from digital source from my computer. My problem is that i dont know how to do it, in the past couple of days i was researching but havent really found anything, already started to driving my wife crazy as i was dealing with this topic all the time:)
I understand that i need a 4 channel sound card, i can get an external one as my laptop does not have any. But how to connect it to my marantz? i have no SQA adapter so can i somehow play it in discrete mode?
thanks in advance:
Bence

Welcome to AudioKarma.

Is your Pink Floyd DSOTM quad mix a discrete four channel mix or is it a matrix mix? If it is discrete, you will need a 4-channel sound card.

Plug the sound card front channels outputs LEFT and RIGHT into the Marantz Front Inputs CD-4 AUX, LEFT and RIGHT.

Plug the sound card rear channels outputs LEFT and RIGHT into the Marantz Rear Input CD-4/AUX, LEFT and RIGHT.

Switch the Marantz front panel Selector switch to CD-4/AUX.

Switch the Marantz front panel Mode switch to Discrete.
Play the music: :music: :music: :music: :music:

Also, your unit might have a 2 channel/4 channel switch on the back. Believe that needs to be on 4 channel.
DO NOT CHANGE THAT SWITCH WITH THE UNIT POWERED ON.

Hi tcdriver, JJCalvillo,

after reading all the different quad formats it seems that i wanted to overcomplicate the last step as well, linking the DAC to the amplifier with the cables simply:)
I believe the Pink Floyd Immersion Box contains the original full discrete version of DSOTM.

thanks guys!

Yes, the Blu-ray disc contains the 1973 quadraphonic mix as well as the 2003 5.1 mix. You will need a Blu-ray disc player with analog outputs or a HDMI to 5.1 channel converter. Using the setup menu in the Blu-ray player will allow you to play the 5.1 channel mix in 4.0 channels. Good listening.
