Marantz 4270 Stereo Bi-Pin Value

hey guys, does anyone know offhand what the value of the stereo lamp bi-pin is in the 4270, i have a few 8v laying around or is this one a 6.3v, and if it is the 6.3v can i get away with using the 8v or am i asking for trouble...i cant find the answer in the service manual, it shows the lamps but no value in the parts list

If I remember correctly, most Marantz receivers had a 12V lamp for the stereo lamp. PM forum member dgwojo to make sure about that.

This has the HA1156 stereo MPX IC, if you use the wrong lamp you risk killing it. Forum member dgwojo will know the correct replacement, shoot him a PM.

This has the HA1156 stereo MPX IC, if you use the wrong lamp you risk killing it. Forum member dgwojo will know the correct replacement, shoot him a PM.

I am pretty sure it is the blue base 12v / 40ma bi-pin for the Stereo Indicator light.
I worked with dgwojo to verify the correct values for the 4270 (and 4300) about 2 years ago. We positively established what values were needed for each bulb location. He has all the correct info and correct value bulbs for the 4270.
I’m sure you know it is a good idea to replace all the Fuse Lamps with the correct 8V / 200ma value while you are in there. I would just get a complete lamp kit from him. It is relatively cheap and you will have what you need in case you find something else is bad.

BTW - Here is a so-so pic of mine still going strong after changing the bulbs two years ago

your 4270 looks great, i already replaced the fuse lamps and the other bi-pins which were 6.3v 40ma, does anyone have a definite answer on this, is it the 12v, if so, i will order one immediately...thanks

I believe Jim is right, the 12v 40mA lamp is the correct one. The HA1156 data sheet specifies the lamp driver current at no more than 75mA. Every HA1156 equipped unit I have seen uses a 40mA lamp. Measure the DC voltage from the 'hot' side of the stereo lamp to ground (chassis). If you measure 12V use a 12V 40mA lamp, if you measure 8V, use an 8V 40mA lamp.

OK, I just got home from work (I work nights) and checked my notes and the manual.
The following is for the Marantz 4270 and 4300
I hope someone finds this useful in the future.

Lamps for Marantz 4270 and 4300
IN1012011 – Marantz number for the Stereo indicator lamp.
It is a 12V / 40ma bi-pin. Usually a blue base.

IN1006302 – Marantz number for the 4CH indicator lamp.
It is a 8V / 40ma bi-pin. Usually a green base.

IN1006301 – Marantz number for the AM, FM, Dolby, Tape 1, Tape 2, Phono, Aux, indicator lamps.
It is a 6.3V / 40ma bi-pin. Usually a white base.

IN1008007 - Marantz number for the Dial and Meter Lights.
8V / 200ma fuse style lamps are correct for Dial and Meter Lights.
Caution: Do not use 250ma lamps sold by numerous aftermarket vendors. These will melt your plastic bodied dial and meter housings.
Note: Consider the alternate LED upgrade for these. They run cool, look great (in my opinion), and last almost forever.

8V / 60ma used for dial pointer lamp
Only 95% sure on this one - Can someone verify this?

My 12v/40ma bi-pin is lamp number 1N1012091, I wonder if the Marantz SM has a misprint?? At any rate, the 12v/40ma is a safe place to start, then the 8v/40ma and 6.3v/40mA. In my experience, most FM lamps for Marantz are on 12v circuits, many use a pair of 6.3v's in series, Dave.

the stereo indicator is definitely a 12v 40ma, i used toms advise and took readings....thanks everybody for their help, as usual everybody pitches in to help...why did marantz use so many different bi-pins in one unit?

Here is a cut from the parts list in the 4270 service Manual. It has the same numbers in the 4300 Service Manual.
Marantz manuals are known to have more than their share of misprints, so who knows.
I was never able to find the dial pointer lamp in the parts lists yet it is clearly shown it in the exploded diagrams (M001). Go figure.
Regardless, I have been using the 12v/40ma bi-pin lamps I received form you for 2 years now in my 4270 & 4300 with no problems so we must be doing something right.

Just for the record - IN1006302 Marantz number for the 4CH indicator lamp is 6.3V 180mV according to the 4430 Service Manual.
