Marantz 4400 audio issue help!

I obtained a Marantz 4400. When hooking it up the sound for the front remote and main speakers is very quiet and does not come out right. Although when using the rear ports for audio both work fine and sound great. Does anyone know how to fix this?

You should probably start with cleaning all the switches and controls with de-oxit, or at the very least the ones you can easily reach. This unit is packed about as full as a unit can be. Also, clean the remote/local switch and the 2/4 channel switch. Clean each item one at a time and operate the control 25-50 times. Never flip the 2/4 channel switch with the unit powered up. Hello, I'm also currently working on a 4400 so maybe I can give some advice as well. I'm not a pro and there's a whole bunch of marantz experts here that can help as well.

Are you testing it in 4x50 mode or 2x125 mode? I would set mode to discrete and check in 4x50 mode in order to have all channels working separately.
Are you auing the rear aux input for testing rear speaker outputs and front input for testing front speaker outputs?
If you have left/right channel differences you can also remove pre out/main in jumpers at the back and try crisscrossing with rca cables to pinpoint problem. But as Richs_Trains writes - problems with local remote switch seems very comment, sometimes even that the switch isn't fully set to to Local can create problems.
Let us know how it goes.
If you have another reciever amplifier you can connect and see if problem is with amp section or pre amp section.
Have you worked at all on the power supply p800 board before? These are almost always bad after years of heating and should definitely be recapped at the very least.
