The fuses are on that board to the right of the transformer. IIRC, the fuse for the scope is a difficult one to find.

Thanks, I located them about 30 minutes ago. There's one board that has a collection of fuses. The board next to that has a white transistor and a fuse. I can't make out whether that fuse is blown or not. I'll try my hardest to liberate the boards this weekend, though its very tight in there.

Fuses can look good but test bad, best to get a nice fuse puller from an auto or electronics shop or Walmart to pull them easily, then test with a meter (resistance or continuity, zero reading means its open or blown).

Nice score, if you paid $250 for this, I shudder to think what the estate sale buyer paid for it.

Reminds me of the time I missed a yard sale advertising these (had 2) to try another sale. I offered to buy them via Email but never got a reply. When the guy finally responded on Monday, he had sold them each for $125! which was half of what I would have offered each. I regret that to this day.

I'll have to console myself with 2 4300's and a 2500 instead

You need to test the fuses with a meter. There's nothing to calibrate really, it should display if it's working.

wjoe has the bulbs you want, as well as the tuner string it sounds like you will need. Be careful, do you have any experience restoring electrical devices?

You must check the fuse with an ohm meter not by eye. The element is way to small to see if you are not superman.

I have two 4400s and have seen the scope die due to a fuse on the power supply board. The heater will still work, but the hi voltage will not.....

Careful that sucker will knock you on your ars.....

Yeah, it was dumb luck. The listing was for the pair of Altec Lansing 19's, but he had a small blurb about the 4400 at the bottom of the listing. When I showed up to his place, it turned out to be a local swap meet vendor I buy from all the time. I was able to haggle the price down from $350. I have to imagine he paid significantly less because he backed down easily.

In jailtime's thread, his scope issue sounded similar to my own. Once he replaced the fuse, the heater would engage but nothing would display. He then mentions after a calibration that the dot finally centered. I was able to remove the fuses last night and inspect them closely. The element is clearly there, but I will use my DMM to test it later today. I actually swapped two of the fuses, but the scope still did not respond.

I've been extremely cautious while tinkering around. I wouldn't dare touch one of the large transformers or caps. This unit is in fantastic shape and the fact that the scope is not functioning is pretty frustrating.

I fell victim to another beauty this afternoon. Picked up this beast for $250. She's in excellent cosmetic condition and mostly functional. The scope powers on but only emits an orange-ish hue. The lamps need to be replaced on the right half, it's missing one of the caps on a button, and the tuner control is loose and only responds effectively when moved at a high rate of speed. The tube for the scope lights up very dimly, though I am uncertain if it is the culprit for the scope issues. I'd like to do what I can to get her back to her original state, so any input is greatly appreciated. My Kenwood KR-9600 is definitely on the way out with this gem in my possession.

I know this is 2 years later, but please shrink the pictures! They're too darn big!

Hello there! I thought it would be better to revive this topic than open a new.
I decided to see what's wrong with my 4400 that sits around in my parents house the last 10 years.The light would come up,scope dot present but no sound! Changed just one busted fuse and its all perfect! The scope is really bright,in sync,the sound seems to be ok. I turned the volume half way up and I thought that my speakers would fry!
I cant believe that I got away just with one fuse! Is there anything else I should pay attention to? I'm not that experienced in the hi-fi thing, but I think that this beast works great(not to say as new!).
One small problem that seems to have magically disappear lately,was that sometimes I would get really low volume on one channel. Now everything's ok though,unless something gets on the vents in which case it happens again(oberheating I guess). Any suggestions on how to test the overall condition?
