MARANTZ 4400 - QUAD ROTARY SWITCH

Hey all!

My amplifier has been almost fully restored, but... I have a problem with the "Power Mode" - Quad rotary switch (S005) Part No. SR0602010 - See attached pictures.

When it's on 4 channels 4X50 watt everything goes smoothly, but when you go into Stereo mode 2X125 watt, there are scary contact noises coming out from the speakers,

Does anyone know which 5 layers rotary switch can replace the original one, So I can unleash this monstrous Marantz amp. True potential?

Have you tried cleaning it yet? I would try at least twice before replacing it. Deoxit works well. Work the switch many many times while and after spraying, with the unit off of course.

Never, ever turn that switch with the unit powered on!

I am not familiar with Deoxit, can you send a link to it?

Also is there any specific angle I should point the spray at?

Well I did as you suggested, and ordered the DeoxIT DN5, hopefully this will resolve the issue, I will keep everyone posted,

When you get it, the switch will be more easily accessible from the bottom with the bottom panel removed.

Unplug it and let it sit overnight before opening it just to be safe. Once the lower panel is off, you'll see the switch and all the contacts. I would gently stuff something absorbant around and behind the switch to prevent getting it anywhere other than the contacts you are trying to clean. Just a sprinkle goes a long way here. You don't have to saturate like you would cleaning the pots or pushbutton switches, just a little quick spray.

Get in there with a flashlight and magnifying glass if possible and visually inspect the contacts and plates for varnishing. Whilebdoing this cycle the switch to uncover the other contact for cleaning. This switch is one of the lesser used switches in the unit and prone to varnishing. I found a good small stuff brush or qtip with alcohol works well too, in conjuction with deoxit.

After spraying work that switch back and forth many times and keep repeating till its nice and clean. You should be good to go as long as you don't knock off any wires!
