Hi everyone! First post so bear with me!
I just recently acquired a Marantz 4400 off of eBay, knew it was sold for parts or repair and knew it needed work as far as recapping goes. Delivered yesterday decently and packed well. Cleaned all the dust and dirt (this thing was caked and smelled like old cat urine!) in the bathtub with soap and water (I know, not exactly ideal but this thing was filthy and made sure it didn’t have any power built up from the 2 minutes I tested the power for before putting in) and got her dried in front of a powerful metal fan before plugging in. Ran for about 3 hours fine before I smelled something electronically hot or burning. Power transformer was bubbling and popping a bit before I blew into the side of it and some smoke came out! Let it dry for the rest of the night, came back to plugging it in powering it on again for about 30 seconds before I could hear low bubbling going on and same type of smoke comes out when blowing into transformer. Desoldered the transformer completely to show that it’s bulging on the sides, something I wasn’t aware of but went to see the auction pictures again to confirm it was bulging before it was sent out. Unfortunately looks like it’s been dropped before. My problem is that how or where can I find a replacement transformer? The 4300 isn’t the same transformer as far as I can tell and I’ve heard of people sending them out to be rewrapped but where to send them, I’m not sure. I would like to keep this unit as it was working in ALL 4 speakers AND the scope works really well and shines bright with no burn in that I see!!!
Any help is appreciated if you can and I can provide pictures as well.
