Marantz 5025B No Output

Hey Guys,

I just got a 5025B cassette deck and although very dirty, it seems to mechanically function after I cleaned it (FF/REW/Play). The problem is no audible 'play' output. I get no meter deflection and can barely hear the tape with the amp volume almost all the way up, but it is there. If trying record, I do get meters and signal passed through the unit. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!!!! Rich

UPDATE..... even though I cleaned the long white switches on the PC board, they turned out to be the problem, only when I removed the tab that operates them and again worked them in and out with de-oxit did I get my audio back. Was sold as a basket case and now works fine. Thanks Rich

Lol. Those were the same switches I told you you were a genius on when you had me check them for a faulty Limiter mode. These are apparently VERY important switches. :)

in any cassette deck i have had this problem with its always been the long switches .. my theory is record rarely gets used but when it does it pushes the collected crud all over and stops the signals .

I cleaned them and moved them back and forth and nothing, not until I pulled the bracket and then cleaned and worked them again did I get sound. They control all the switching between record and play, so yeah, kinda important!
