Marantz 5025BSE Cassette Deck - Special Edition?

Hi - Just picked up a Marantz 5025BSE cassette deck (the middle unit in the photo). I says "Special Edition" and "Super Chromium" beneath the left and right VU meters.
I've never seen this unit before - with the "Special Edition" designation - and was wondering if anyone else has run across it.
Possible an overseas, maybe PX version...?

Hmmm...yah - and that's just for the 5025 - can't seem to find anything about the "Special Edition" and "Super Chromium."
Well, I'd say it's a keeper in any case.....thanks!

"Well....isn't that special?" :)

That's a beautiful set up. Do you use the 170dc's together?

Rocko: Thanks - I see you have similar tastes - is that a 2130 in your rack? The two 170DCs are offline right now, but when they're back, yes - they'll drive a pair each of Forte and Forte IIs. I know - ridiculous, silly, makes no sense at all....:)

It makes all the sense in the world!:thmbsp:

I have two 170dc's as well, trying to figure what I'd like to do with them.
The tuner is a 2110. Sadly that's a system that is long gone.
Currently have:

Marantz 170dc's x 2
Marantz Model 24
Marantz 3300
JVC QL-A7

Rocko: Are both your 170DCs online - working? I had a line on a 300DC last week but moved too slowly for it - you don't see those much anymore. Also, I see you have a pair of Fortes - do any upgrades on them yet?

Both the 170's sound great.

I bought the first one but the cosmetics weren't great and 1 meter was out. So I happen to find the other 170 at a great price and grabbed that one it's a 9 out of 10.
I just figured I'd sell the first 170 but now I think I may keep it.
I would love to find a 300dc but they seem to get a bit pricey.
I love the Fortes! I haven't upgraded them yet but I'm sure I will in due time.

Now I just need to dig up a 3250 or 3250B and a tuner.

I picked up a lot of my equipment about 10 years ago when it seems like Marantz gear was less “collectible” – more around and better prices. 170DCs still pop up occasionally, but I haven’t seen a 3250B for awhile. My 2130 I got from a former girlfriend who bought it new and didn’t want her “old Marantz stuff” anymore…I traded her a new Sony A/V receiver for it – I’m still ashamed…..:)

Seller was asking $500 for the 300DC – cosmetics looked good, but it’s always a crap shoot with performance. But by the time I got hold of him it was long gone. I notice there’s a 510M on Ebay right now for $500 – don’t see them around much anymore either.

I replaced the tweeter diaphragms on my Forte Is and Forte IIs – big difference, especially when playing SACD through my digital set up. Started to recap the crossovers, got the schematics from Klipsch and all, but when I pulled them they looked really good , so I’m still scratching my head about that upgrade. I do recommend the Bob Crites titanium tweeter upgrades though – very easy to install yourself.
