Marantz 6100 *POPS* at end of record

i just set up a Marantz 6100 i got a little while back. everything works on the TT and its good lookin' too. only issue im having is that when cueing and at end of play there is a loud *POP* sound coming through the speakers. this happens both when i cue up a record (move the tonearm over, platter starts spinning - *POP*) and during auto return or manual cut.

what could it be?

don't specifically know about the 6100

but I would say it's the muting switch, either not functioning or not engaging..

Yes, there is a capacitor in the 6100, maybe the only capacitor, whose sole job is to tame the voltage spike that occurs when the arm switch is closed or opened. Look up one of the old threads to find out more info.

hi Boreas, thanks for the tip. i did find that old thread and saw your comments there. i've never replaced a capacitor before but this seems like a simple enough one to start with. i downloaded the schematic from vinylengine. only problem is im not sure what replacement part to buy. any chance you could point me in the direction of the correct replacement cap?
 
i went ahead and ordered the correct cap, just need to stick it in. will update if and when this fixes my problem.

i've got the exact same issue, but never replaced a cap before. can you post the link to where you bought the replacement and maybe give a quick rundown of the process for a newbie? thanks!
 
Cap goes across switch. My current Dual 1219 needs one. Did the 810 BSR. Broke the wires to the tone arm. Real easy on the 810. Duals are easier.
