Marantz 6100 TT question...

Hello, I did a search and could not find any thing in regards to my question.

I have a Marantz 6100 belt drive TT, and inside under the platter, there are two pinkish screws that say 'Before using please take off this screw'. The screws look like they attach to the motor, and look like they have never been removed.

Does any one who owns a 6100 TT know what these are for, and why they need to be removed before use?

I've never used a 6100 but I guess they are either for locking the turntable suspension during transit, or possibly the motor if this is sprung mounted? It's nice of them to mark the transit screws so clearly; normally you are lucky if the heads are painted a different colour!

I've got 6100, not right here (it's getting repaired - transport during moving sucks :thumbsdn and eventhough opening the box of every vintage I get is usually the first thing I do, I would never try to poke in my Marantz TT. Maybe I love it too much and I don't wanna hurt this little wooden fella.

But if you uncrew it with care, with no force, I do believe it's gonna be OK... They were usually build to be repaired anytime in the furure. It's not like opening iBook, where unscrewing cover means scratching everything and most propably damaging something important as well. I think she was meant to be easy servicable.

I guess it might be some kind of last protection of the mechanics and it might hold the "engine" and all those tiny little parts that can be damaged during the trasport. After unscrewing, you certainly shouldn't move it. But I'm not really sure. :scratch2:

Remove them, they are there to hold the motor steady during shipping. The motor is supposed to be isolated from the plinth during operation. It's a good idea to keep them in a safe place in case you ever have to ship or sell the turntable.
