Marantz 6300 auto problem

Around half a year ago, I had purchased my first true turntable, a Marantz 6300. When purchasing it, it was told to me that the automatic function was not working and regardless I purchased it because the feature was not necessary at the moment and could be fixed later on. Later on has come and searching through forums and videos for weeks and months has led to some enlightenment but the overall verdict seems to be nothing works and because of it I finally decided to post about it. When in Manual the turntable works perfectly with no issues whatsoever. However, when in auto I move the tonearm to the edge of the record and press down to start it and the turntable begins to spin but the tonearm does not drop and as soon as down is no longer pressed the strobe turns off as does the motor, holding down the down button only keeps the strobe and motor on and the tonearm still remains up. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The problem is the photo Darlington transistor is open (most likely) or the associated LED is bad, or both. Cost for the parts is about $5 total, plus $3.50 S&H. A replacement transistor is TT Electronics [formerly Optek] OP535B - Photodarlington Mouser part # 828-OP535B, a replacement LED is LN28RPX from Mouser. Take the bottom off and see if the LED lights up in manual, if it does, you can probably get by with cleaning the LED (cotton swab and alcohol) and replacing the phototransistor across from the LED. If the turntable runs in manual but quits in auto and the arm rest goes up, then the problem is likely the photo transistor/LED as I indicated. Have to take care and install the transistor in the correct manner with the indicated #2 lead on the transistor going to the #1 indicated on the small circuit board and the Transistor #1 lead going to the #2 portion of the small circuit board. The #2 transistor lead is adjacent to a flat on the transistor base.
