Marantz 8 (not 8b)

Man, you guys are making me wipe the monitor again and again.

Onemug, gotta drop by for a listen and help you move those 9's, whereabouts are you in SoCal?. Wouldn't want the couch to catch fire with those tubes on them. What's the story on how you acquired them?

I'm out here in the So Cal desert. Thanks for the offer. I do have help if I need it but I've grown accustom to this arrangement, so for a little longer it will stay as is. With the addition of the Model 8 nearby, pretty much all I have to do is move the interconnects from one amp to the other. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds and I'm 8-ing or 9-ing depending on the mood.

I have the 7 and 9's on wood cutting boards and the tubes are far enough away from anything to cause any danger...but I'm still going to rack them.

These 9's came to me via a special friend at a price I thought was more than fair.

Excellent! Those amps probably add to your air conditioning bill too but its so worth it.

I know this is an old post, but I have a nice 8 wired for Triode with some nice tubes. What is the sound difference between the 8 and 9.
FWIW I'm running through pretty efficient speakers. I think the 8 is plenty power for me.

You can tell they are cut from the same cloth sonically with the 9's having more authority. Some speakers need to be 'shown who's boss' and then the 9's would stand out more even at lower volumes. Sounds like you have a good match with your 8.

I will add this for anyone doing a search that may end up here... I've had my 9's for 6 yrs now. It's been a total pleasure living with them. They have been 100% reliable. They are masterpieces. Live with a pair for a while and you will understand.

Sounds like I'd enjoy a pair, but I need to hear them first....As you know, that is a big check to write and even bigger now.
I have some speakers that could use a "boss" and some Altec 604b Hollywood that will run on flee watts.

I'm in San Clemente. We have meetups here sometimes. Last meetup, last week, we had three 8s in the room. If you want to bring your amps it would be great to have you. I wouldn't be opposed to taking my stuff inland either.

Very nice of you to invite me. I've enjoyed doing those things but now is not a good time for me. Maybe in the future we can play 'who's the boss'. :beerchug:

What you just said. Drool on monitor is a problem here. I have serious lust for Saul's finest. As nothing bettered them, then or now. Also note: 2 year warranty (very bold then, when most was 90 days). Also, the only company in audio then other than McIntosh who had honest power ratings, and conservative too. The 8b is the creme de la creme of fine music reproduction.
