Marantz Christmas

For those of you Marantz fans who would like to do something special to your Marantz receiver for xmas check out what this tech did to a fellows 2265 when he took it in to get some lamps replaced.
Besides the cheap xmas lights installed as function indicators instead of the 8v 40ma bi pins they put 12v 150 ma for meter lamps instead of 8v 300ma.
The fellow who brought me his receiver to restore mentioned the meters were a little dim. Kinda of like that tech. The tech was so proud of his work he put his shop label on the back.
The last picture is the receiver being tested after being recapped and my AK LEDs added.

The outfit that did this is still in business, spreading their xmas joy.
Can't imagine doing this and charging for it with a straight face.
Fortunately they only messed up the lamps. If amp work was required it would have been ugly. This guy wasn't surgical with his soldering either. Lots of burnt wire insulation.
He does get full marks for creativity and innovation.
Sadly, no blinking lights.
Is there a forum for tech work "Wall of Shame"?
I have lots of other examples. I bet there would be no shortage of submissions on what not to do.

That is so wrong on so many levels.

Blinking lights would have been interesting, though. :D

I have a handful. SPEC 2 I'm working on now was butchered. I'm afraid I won't be able to make it as pretty as I'd like.

I have a few tube pieces here that would get a real "WTF?!?" reaction. They all came from the same crazy guy's storage locker selloff. Combined in a pile of parts, I have about 1.666 Fisher 400C preamps. The Citation IV is a horror that cannot be believed...
