Marantz Dial String material

I just had the dial string break on a 2220B I was restoring. I see them available on eBay, but I was wondering what the AK folks have used as replacements? I assume the material needs to have a texture that doesn't slip and also not stretch. Appreciate any suggestions.

I was fortunate when I was in from '75 to '79.
Went to electronics school out of boot camp, then was shore based a little north of Naples Italy for two years working for NATO.

My last duty station I was working for the US Mapping Agency on a Military Sealift Command survey ship surveying the north and south ends of the Suez Canal for over a year. Gravy duty. Two guys to a stateroom, lobster on the menu regularly.

My good friend was on the Kitty Hawk in the same era. Said there was regular racial tension.

That's cool my friend. I was in from '81 - 90. Naples was our home Med port. Actually was honored with eating an authentic dinner with an Italian family. Last 3 years was an instructor on main propulsion maintenance in Norfolk and got my electronics education at night (compliments of the Navy). Guess this isn't the forum for this but certainly appreciate all of your replies on my posts! Love my vintage audio and have found a new passion reviving these gems. Still learning though and this forum has been a life saver. Thanks to you and everyone else!
