Marantz HD550 Speakers - Any good?

Are they $100 of speaker? I generally like the sound of 3-ways and have read some good things - some bad things - about the HD line from Marantz.

I'd drop $100 if they could go punch for punch with my modded Polk Monitor 7s and have the precise fidelity of my AR-4xs.

Also tempted because I've never owned any Marantz gear before. Opinions? Thank you!

You dont see the 550's often. If they're in nice shape, original and the surrounds are good, I'd snag them for $100. A nice set of vintage speakers for not a lot of money. I've had a pair and they are pretty good speakers imo. Good luck!

My opinion is that you should probably start your Marantz collection with a 22xx receiver.

Thank you both - they do need to be re-foamed and are missing grilles. I will pass. And look for a 22xx receiver.

Refoaming isn't hard. Offer $50.
