Hey there, this is my first foray into better speakers (I'm sure there are much better speakers out there). I'm lost as to whether I should throw some money down for the Imperial 6 or the 601. Please bear in mind, I'm currently able to get the Imperials for 125 CAD, whereas the 601 would cost me around 250. Could any audiophiles or those in the know shed some light on which would be a better buy for a beginner? They would be powered by a recently acquired Harmon Kardon hk 690i. Thanks in advance!

I have a pair of 6's and love them. 1 new film cap in the crossover and your good to go. The 601's are nice also, just check for blown tweeters and rotten surrounds on the woofers. The imperials are rubber. Also you can still get new replacement tweeters from Partsexpress cheap for the 6's if blown.
In the Bose lineup I have owned 301's, 501's & 901's. All were series 2.
The 301s are very nice small speakers and I loved the 901s. I no longer own
any Bose speakers.
I owned and sold Imperial 5's and still own a set of 6's. I did way more typing than necessary
to tell you to buy the 6's. They are getting harder and harder to find and they are half the price of the Bose.
More than enough savings to get them recapped. They are great sounding speakers.

Thanks guys, after some haggling I managed to get imperials for $130 
. They were pretty darn hefty, and I totally didn't expect how much nicer they looked in person. There is some wear on the wood, but that's to be expected considering the age. I haven't hooked it up yet, but so far I'm loving the way they look!
