Marantz Meter Swap

While working on my Marantz 2238 some time ago I accidentally broke the FM tuning meter trying to desolder wires from the terminals on the back of it; turns out those terminals were supported by a brittle PCB that snaps in half if you move them around too much... the coil tension got messed up and the needle became displaced from where it should be.

The 2238 isn't the most common Marantz model around so I was having a hard time finding a replacement and decided to try a meter from a different model instead. I ended up getting one from a 2216 (similar era to 2238) and swapped the insides to the original housing - perfect fit. I was worried that the voltage range would be different between the meters but the needle movement seems exactly the same as it was before the replacement.

Can't guarantee swaps will work between models further apart but it's something to look into if you mess up the same way I did! Be careful when handling the assembly inside the meter, the black paint rubs off the needle very easily. Thankfully I found this out with the broken assembly first.

I've used various bits from other models as replacements. Tuning meters and such are probably the same for several or even many models. I had to replace the tuning indictator on the dial in a model 120 scoped tuner. I used one out of a receiver that was being parted out. It was exactly the same. It turns out there are short and longer ones depending on the dial itself.
