Marantz Model 1060 worth $60?

There is a Marantz Model 1060 in a second hand store for $60. On the outside it looks great, but there is a lot of dust and debris inside. I haven't had the time to test it, and the store doesn't have speakers or a source I'd trust. Is this amp worth a $60 gamble?

My guess is you're going to tell me to go get it tomorrow morning, but I would love to have some opinions on the amp and it's pros and cons. Also, I'd love some advice on what to look for when I go back.

When I flip, I don't usually make money. I like to pass things on to friends or family as gifts or get what I paid for it. My usual motivation is to test out different components, searching for synergy or possibly the Holy Grail. $60 seems high on my scale unless I can give it a test or if the knowledgeable people on AK say "YYYEEESSS!"

normaly when I flip I get a lot more then I paid. I have picked things up for next to nothing and let them go for whatever they go for on ebay. I picked up one item for 10 dollars and it sold for 500. and other items like that. like 7 dollars for a pair of speakers that sold for 200. of course i refurbed them with freash foam. but still didnt have that much into them. and another set paid 15 and sold for 300. and some others. I normaly flip stuff I find at good prices then I can buy something I really want. like today I picked up new toner for HP laser printers for next to nothing. paid 25 total for all 3 and two of them go for around 180 each on ebay and the other goes for around 100. so I should get around 460 dollars out of that 25 dollars spent if i go to HP's web page two of them are 269.99 each. and the other is 143.99. so whoever buys them will get a good deal but not as good as what I paid. As soon as they sell I will get something that I really want. I have two pair of AR speakers that I piked up for free that I am going to refoam and flip them. I may use them for a little bit before I sell them. but they will be sold some day. the new foam came in the mail on monday, but I haven't had the time to do anything with them.

i always make big when i flip audio equipment. it enables me also to buy what i really want.. whether it is more records or more hi-fi....

I have definitely sold to flippers. And I'm glad they were honest about it. They said they wouldn't buy anything that they couldn't triple their money on, so that gave me the freedom to add a few dollars to everything. I don't have the time to be a pro flipper - and I've seen their place - it was jam-packed with stuff I couldn't listen to in a lifetime.

But back to question - is the Marantz 1060 worth $60?

At this store, I don't think they would have a problem with me bringing in a Discman and some Minimus 7s to give the 1060 a test. But popping the top off to check for leaky caps might be another story. As well, I think that pointing out the dusty condition might not improve my negotiating position, if they just say "take it or leave it".

the marantz 1060 is a great little amp. It is not a party machine, but it has excellent sound, design, and build quality. It is one of the finest integrated amps in the < 50 watt range (just my opinion).

Untested units I always offer as if it's a non working unit .

For me make the money when you buy .

I cant remeber if the 1060 has a headphone jack. That is a fair test too. I think an ipod with a y adapter would be agreat way to test it. Working at $0 - yep - not a super steal but a good deal. Not working at $60, you could probably part it out on ebay and make a few buck - not much but a little.
