Marantz Model 14

Hello all, I have a Marantz Model 14 cube power amp. I have no idea of what it's worth, can someone give me an idea of it's value?
Thank's to all,
Richard.

hi richard ,

although your intentions are probally good telling people your putting something up for auction on ebay is basically the same as advertising said product. this is against ak rules and you should remove your post.

I know this gets brought up every time someone asks "what's it worth", but Kam's sticky post about what this forum is for clearly states:
"This forum's purpose will be for eBay postings, questions on value and worth, craigslist deals, etc. If you want to know what you have and what it's worth, this forum is a one stop shop

Any posts in other forums in relation to these questions will be moved over here, so please save the moderators the work and feel free to post in this forum."

Seems to me he asked what something he has is worth, which is exactly what this forum was created for according to the rules.
If this is against AK's rules, the sticky post should be revised.

Sorry, just noticed you said he mentioned he said it was up for auction and just noticed his post was revised. My bad:nono:

All's well that ends well!

So, does anybody have an answer for him? I just did a search on eBay and turned up nothing in the last 30 days.

The 14 was 1/2 of the 15 stereo power amp and few were ever sold as mono units. VERY occasionally you'll see 1 for sale but usually it is from a 15 that has a toasted unit and the owner separated them. If yours has a short ac cord then it is from the 15, I think right side as you look at the front.

Resale value is not much as they really do not have much of a market and are not collector items. Would be interesting as a center channel in a HT setup or as a spare amp for an owner of a 15. Of course if you could find another 14 or a 15 with a toasted channel then you could have a nice set of 14s.

Resale price; probably between $75 and $100 in excellent operating and cosmetic condition would be my bet; closer to the low end unless you get lucky.

Thank's Brian, under the name Marantz it states "Model Fourteen" so I don't think it is from a model 15. I can see where the threaded holes are to bolt another unit to it. It sounds fine, no hum, buzz or magic smoke. Just clean audio. There is no gain control I can find. For being over 30 years old it looks pretty good. Thank's again for the info, now I know what a good offer is or if I will keep it, I must have a small flat surface around here somewhere.
Richard.

There is no gain control. Check the bulb to make sure it is okay. It is not for illumination but to light when the amp is driven into overload. Overload is the killer of these amps. They can self-destruct. At that time 50 watts was high powered. The design weakness was overcome in the 16 that was a 15 refinement by Sid Smith who worked with Saul on the original company's amps and preamps.
