Marantz Model 140 VU Meter Adjustment

Hi to all,

I picked up a nice Marantz 140 amp that works and sounds great but, the VU meters appear to be out of adjustment as they don't even begin to move unless I turn the volume up to a level that will start breaking windows etc. Can anyone tell me how to adjust the VU meters to where they are relatively accurate? I have a service manual, but I'm not that knowledgable. Thanks much for the help and advise.

What is the efficiency of the speakers you are driving? Meters won't move much driving high efficiency speakers to loud volumes. I was driving some BMS compression drivers in a biamp set up with a 140. You could barely see the VU needles move.

Thanks for the reply. That is probably the case. My 2 speaker systems I use are;
Klipsch KLF 10
Celestion model 8
I guess I was expecting more meter movement, but my speakers don't need much power to drive at listening levels so I guess I learned something about the 140 amp. Thanks again.

Don't know about the Celestions, but the KLF-10s are 98 dB efficient. Which means they require very little power to play very loud.
