bon soir, AK. i scored a pair of marantz mph-2 headphones cheap today after seeing a CL ad. i don't know if discussing money is kosher on this forum or if it has to be on d&s but i just wanted to give a heads up that i am blown away by these headphones considering their price point. granted i don't have anything super high end in the headphone dept, but i've had decent headphones over the years that cost more and these blow them out of the water. i didn't see tons of info out there when i looked them up earlier--nothing on AK--so i just figured i'd give my two cents.
they come with a 10' cord, which i love because my room setup forces me to sit far from my receiver. the isolation is fantastic considering they're not noise-cancelling. again considering their price, and with zero burn in, they produce a positively cavernous sound that images really well. so far i'm playing them through my sx-850 receiver from the phono section and just straight from the headphone jack of my iphone. no headphone amp. if there's a weak spot i'd say that maybe the vocal clarity isn't quite as razor sharp as one might like, but i'm stunned by how great instruments sound across a wide variety of music. anyway, i'd love to hear from anybody else using these and for what it's worth, i'd say go for it if you can pick these up cheap as i did. hope that helps somebody!
