Marantz mr255 vs marantz 2270

I have a marantz mr255 right now, it has been a joy to use, but i've got a marantz 2270/2275 itch that needs to be scratched. Is there a huge difference between the performance of the two models, specs aside? Is it worth upgrading to the 2270/2275?

Many consider the 2270 and 2275 two of the best receivers that Marantz ever made. If you can find one at a good price, I'd go for it.

Is there a noticeable difference in the output of the two receivers to justify buying a 2270/2275 though?

THey have less than a 10% diff in output , so you will likely never hear a diff in output. In order to increase the loudness just 3db on a 70wpc amp you would need to jump to 140wpc. So even a 90wpc amp would only gain 1db of sound pressure.

How about the quality of the sound? Is there a palpable difference between the two of them or am i just giving money away by getting an incremental upgrade.
Should i really spring for the 2270?

The MR series of receivers isn't particularly good. Noise, distortion, muffled warmth... Some of the worst gear I've had the displeasure of listening to. Very easy on the eyes however!

I finally sprung for the 2270 ydsterday. I found. one in a very nice condition with a wooden cade off cl for $520. The guy i bought it from was very nice and very helpful, and shared a lot of information anout the receiver and a lot of other stuff related to audio. It's hooked up to my system now amd i M enjoying it immensely.
