Marantz PM 7000: Power Button Diagnosis/Tips Request

Hi, I'm new here and am hoping for some insight into what is happening with my amp and whether it can be fixed. I have a Marantz PM 7000 Integrated Amp that has served me well for a few years. A week ago it stopped working. On closer inspection, I realized that the problem is in turning the amp on. When I push the button in with some force and hold it in, the amp powers on fine. Everything sounds great as long as I hold the button in; but the moment I let it go, the amp powers off. For obvious reasons, it's not practical to listen to music with my finger pressing on the power switch the whole time. I've never worked on electronics but am willing to give it a shot. Anyone have any advice?

From your description of the problem, it seems that the mains switch is not latching.
The issue can be resolved with a suitable part or 'worked around' with suitable knowledge.



Be prepared to pay a 'competent person' to replace the mains power switch.

Finding the correct replacement switch may be difficult. It may be a latching plunger switch - Something like a C&K F2UOA. These are available in many different configurations. I would look at the switch body to see if there's any identifying information on it.

Sometimes cleaning these will allow the latch to work correctly again. - Chris
