I have a Marantz PM-88aSE and a Marantz PM-80a; two very similar looking integrated amps. The 80a has bass/treble pots and the 88a does not.
The 88aSE sounds very flat. I've read in general that many prefer flat signals vs using tone functions but the PM-80a (which has a bass and treble pot) is much more enjoyable to listen to. There are no pre out/power in jumpers on either, so I am confused the purpose of the 88aSE. Is the 88aSE a power amp or a integrated amp (with no tone controls)? To boost treble/mids/bass was this integrated amp is it expected to have a pre-amp or EQ used with it?
