Please help clear up some confusion regarding Marantz Quadradial units. I know there are several Quadradial receivers, but which other units that are true Quadradial integrated amps and which are just adapters that convert stereo amps and receivers into 4 channels? Did Marantz make any Quadradial power amplifiers or just integrated amplifiers, receivers, and adapters? And lastly, could the adapters be used with two stereo power amplifiers to create a Quadradial system? Thanks in advance to those Marantz experts willing to share their knowledge!

I have a 4140 quad amp it plays QS quad and if you add the adapter card it does SQ also. You can add a CD-4 demodulator for CD-4 play back as well.

To the best of my knowledge Marantz never made a quadraphonic era basic four-channel amplifier. Marantz did make two-channel basic amplifiers during the Quadradial era.
The Model 4000 is designed to be used with a stereo preamplifier, front stereo amplifier and rear stereo amplifier or a stereo integrated amplifier and a stereo amplifier for the rear channels or a stereo receiver with separate stereo amplifier for the rear channels. So, yes, the Model 4000 can be used with two stereo power amplifiers to create a Quadradial system.

I have a model 4100 I just got and upgraded the old lamps to LED. Hooked up 2 speakers to the front R+L. I wasn't hearing the usual magical "Marantz" sound? Hmm. The cool Dimension knob on the front did nothing when turned back and forth, The lights would flicker when you first turned it on. (That turned out being solved by cleaning the power switch with contact cleaner really good.) Found the 2-channel / 4 channel switch in the back. Turned it on and the speakers went out. WTF? I got the original Handbook of Instructions. In there it said "when you SELECT 2-CHANNEL MODE you are to use the REAR SPEAKER OUTPUTS." Turned it off and moved my speakers to the rear terminals and HELLO! MARANTZ SOUND. Sweet Powerful. I'm good.
I'm a mid-range guy...so much stuff happens in there...but no mid-range control on this Marantz 4100? WTF? Well...now when I turned the Dimension knob. OMG. What is that? Still puzzled on what it does but no need for midrange with the Dimension knob. It gives you some magical musical knob that...I don't know how to explain it. But you find this...Look it's just F%$#* magical. I don't know, someone help me out here.

Your Marantz Model 4100 is a high quality Quadradial Amplifier developed by Marantz, a name famous for quality in the audio equipment industry. The Model 4100 incorporates Marantz' exclusive Vari-Matrix circuit which simulates 4-channel sound from normal 2-channel stereo programs, and is capable of reproducing 4-channel sound from any matrix encoded source. The 4100 will also reproduce any discrete 4-channel program as well as regular stereo and monaural programs. An optional plug-in decoder adapts the 4100 for any specific matrix system such as Columbia's SQ, or Electro-Voice's Stereo 4.
