Marantz repairers in Vancouver, BC / lower mainland

Sonic Moron
My 2235 is broken. :(
The left side of the preamp is putting out distortion at all volume levels.

Can anyone here recommend a decent repair person or business in Vancouver or the lower mainland?

FWIW - I often use Ho's Electronics for tube amp repairs, does he also do s.s.?

Thanks a bunch!

I remember a place in Seattle, on Aurora Ave., called Obsolete Electronics.
Wonder if they are still around?:scratch2:

I use Japan Electronics on Main Street in Vancouver for all my tech needs. Owner, Gabriel, loves to get his hands on vintage gear.

Of course, this might be a good time to get inside and play yourself, if you are at all so inclined. Probably just a bad capacitor in there. Once the Marantz database is back up there is probably a service manual there and a total recap of the power amp board (a 'shotgun' approach to servicing the unit but for amateur hobbyists that's easier than true diagnostics!) is not a big job if you have a steady hand with a soldering iron and to buy the required caps is pretty cheap...far cheaper than getting the unit serviced.

If you lived in town I would do it for you but if you decide that you want to recap yourself you will get lots of help here....and I would be happy to scoot over to Main Electronics and pick up the required parts list and fire them off to you.

If you have never done any electronics work, the thought of starting can be a bit daunting but its really far scarier to contemplate than to actually do. You can buy the soldering iron, solder and parts and be all set up to play away probably for less than the cost of shipping two directions to Vancouver plus no risk of damage!

Thanks for your input!
I took the receiver to a tech in North Van, and here is the diagnosis:

the amp has broken power / driver transistors and resistors in the
left power amplifier. Repair take more time than other Amps because the board is vertically mounted on the heat sink and whole Amp / heat sink Ass'y have be
pulled out for repair and testing. Estimation is $150-$180 for labor and $20 for parts.

Methinks I am going to dump this one :scratch2:

If you have any desire to learn how to do the repairs yourself this is the place. Lots of Marantz fans will likely come forward with advice. If you don't want to go that route then sell it as is.You can sell it here in the ad section or try Canuck Audiomart.Lots of guys would love to get their hands on that piece if the cosmetics are good.
Fairly easy fix for someone with patience and some soldering skills and a multi meter. A schematic can likely be found here or online.
