Marantz SD 8020 - mission impossible?

I would not have given that deck a chance for another life given the scarcity of parts, great thread keep the pics coming.

Then I turned on the beast. The relay works fine and display shows some figures, i think is the clock because it starts counter. I dont finish my work on the programming board, I have to solder some transistors on it. Fortunately I have another board for parts.

I pressed the play button, deck runs for 3-4 second and stopped. Pushing the REW or FF button it done some thing.

Pics from restore action.
I suppose the deck is nonfuctional because I don't have the program setting switches board (PK 23) yet. I pressed the pinch roller and deck start playing. Speed control button works fine, capstan increase speed, I think the motor board is functional.

The seller said that it works fine and I payed arround 30$ for it. Bring it home, check it, nothing happens. I opened the lid and I found this:

VFD is broken! ****
So I start searching for that VFD, made by Futaba: 5LT02/02M
So, AT6 goes on top of my MARANTZ tower, waiting for better days

A friend of mine found them in Germany, on ebay.de. I'm still working to restore it, i changed the optocouplers, all belts and IC from logical board. It is working now only in REW and FF mode, but not in PLAY mode. Pushing PLAY switch the brake solenoid is engaged in but play solenoid not. I found 20V for 1 milisecond, then 10V for few seconds and 0V after.
Some pics: working on logical board i found this

Hi, I got mine from eBay, the ad said it powered up and it does. I finally got a power cord to plug it in and it does power up, the timer and clock work, so I hooked the tape in to my iPad paused record and was able to play it record and play controls were dirty, but everything I was able to try worked. After I opened the case someone tried to replace the optic couplers and gave up. A couple screws and standoff on the main flywheel and a couple of plastic pieces and a spring on the takeup table assembly. Looking for a parts unit. Got new belts, pinch roller, optic couplers, just waiting.

Good luck with yours. You have got way more patience than I.

Ok here is my unit, it took me a while to get it uploaded. But it's playing from my iPad, on the tape input and thr record is on pause. Still missing a couple of pieces. Might have a line on them though.
