Marantz serial numbers.

Does the serial number on Marantz equipment generally have any bearing on its collectability? I have seen in other pieces of equipment where low serial numbers, or serial numbers for multiple pieces in series have determined how desireable a piece of equipment can be. Does this follow through with Marantz equipment? Is there a database that shows production numbers of Marantz pieces for various model numbers?

As far as I know, Marantz tube equipment (Model 19, 9, 1, etc.) had sequential model numbers for each model. Therefore, low or close (for mono amps) serial numbers are "collectible" but not necessarily more desirable.

I know of no database for production numbers exactly, sorry.

I have found that low serial numbers add value to the owner of the equipment, but not to someone who's buying the equipment. . .

This also seems to be true of the coveted gold tone face plate models, owners cherish them but buyers won't pay extra for their rarity
