Hello, recently acquired a Marantz SLT 12...but can not figure out how to install the belt.
Other TTs have openings on the platter, here the platter is solid.

I am hoping it works... the motor spindle does spin, but I have not yet tested it. Do these have low values? I recently saw one sell for $800+ on eBay. I hope to resell this for parts or working, once I get to test it. There is a cartridge on board.

Hi Hombrec, I hope I’m not too late. The SLT-logo badge on the front of your turntable is held in with a set of spring-clips. Once you’ve popped that out, you lift off the turntable and fill its well with the correct amount of spindle oil (making sure the ball bearing at the bottom stays put). Then you clean the rim of the platter with isopropyl alcohol, place the belt around it and drop it into place. Next, you guide the belt through the two-pronged lever that lifts and drops the belt between the 33 & 45 RPM steps on the drive-pulley, taking care not to twist the belt or knock the lever off of its mounts. Finally, you pop the badge back into place.

It sounds a lot easier than it is. I have two of them: one 12-U that I had shipped in from Great Britain (with the incorrect 50 Hz pulley) and one that I bought off eBay for parts (probably the one you referenced in your post). They are definitely NOT cheap to buy, repair, or even own for that matter.

Mine with the wrong pulley has a nicer platter and top (along with the desirably interchangeable cartridges), while the other has a nicer wooden base and the correct pulley. My intention was to put the best parts into one turntable and construct the other one as a “beater.” They’re such a nightmare to work on that both of them have been sitting here as-received for months. Even my expert phono-tech won’t touch ‘em, though he’s very interested in getting a look at them for curiosity’s sake.
