Marantz SLT owners

Looking for a little help. Just received a Marantz SLT. Looks pretty good with both belts in good condition and a good original stylus. The base is in really great shape. It's not the "u" version but I'm plenty excited as I have a beauIMG_20200702_162324.jpg IMG_20200702_162335.jpg tiful set of Imperial 9's and planning to get a 2270 as well (needless to say for an all Marantz setup in our living room). However, the spindle is really stuck... won't budge (I've been careful not to scratch or damage it with pliers)! I've let PB Blast soak overnight and still won't move. I tried pliers with rubber protecting the spindle. I've tried heat gun. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated! That's just sticky residue from tape that shows on the spindle.

It looks like the bearing is screwed into the top plate from below - there are the threaded holes visible. I'd remove the bearing and put it in the oven and heat it quite hot, checking occasionally to see if it has unseized. Hot mitts obviously are necessary. No idea what temp you'd have to get to, which is why I'd check from time to time, rather than waiting until it is at 550 and your hot mitts will smoulder and burn.

Thanks for the reply. I wish that was the case but that all one hefty cast frame. Those screw holes are for a Teflon washer and brass trim ring.

Thanks Pio for the suggestion. The PB Blast I put on it has soaked for 2 days. I'll try again tomorrow morning. But the toughest part is getting a good grip on it without damaging it!

Maybe try applying heat with it in place by putting a hot soldering iron to it, or blow with heat gun? Only if there's no plastics or other sensitive materials close by of course :).

Correct me if I'm wrong but heat needs to be applied to the well right? (not the spindle) causing it to open up and allowing the spindle to move (as well as heat any oil in the well that has hardened). I didn't try my soldering iron yet. I will. Thanks. Just want to apply heat/iron in the right place. Thanks.

Heat primarily melts the congealed goo of the aging lube.

Success!! I wrapped an old Philips turntable belt around the spindle (hoping my pliers wouldn't bite all the way through the rubber) and secured it with a small piece of duct tape. Withe spindle thoroughly cleaned with alcohol, the rubber drive belt gripped really good! Apparently a good couple day soak in PB Blast helped as well!

Well, it's running. Ordered a new belt and stylus. Still need to re-grease cueing and adjust magnet for auto lift at end of record.

Up and running!! Setup next to a modern AT LP120 (with phono preamp bypass)...Marantz 2265 and Marantz Imperial 9's. Waiting on Marantz TT-15S1 arrival to replace the Audio Technica and my quest will be complete!!IMG_20200707_181238.jpg IMG_20200707_180247.jpg IMG_20200707_180234.jpg IMG_20200707_180131.jpg

Restoration moving on to the circuit board... anyone know if the caps on this board are polarized? There's a circle around one end of the cap but that's not necessarily an indicator and no indication on the circuit board. Replaced some crumbling foam pads this morning.

我的
马兰士 SLT-12 Requesting assistance, the spindle part is protruding somewhat. Is this a special version, or is the turntable position incorrect?

请求帮助,旋转的部分是突出了一些,这是一个特殊的版本吗?还是转盘位置不对?

求助,主轴部分有点突出,是特殊版本吗,还是转盘位置不对?谢谢

Set the platter on a pot (or something) tall enough to allow the spindle to hang down. Light taps with a small hammer to make the spindle flush with the platter.
