Marantz speakers

I am new to vintage speaker restoration. I have recently acquired two sets of Marantz speakers. I have SP 1250 's and SP 1500 's. The SP 1500's need to be re-foamed. Does anyone know the value of these, and are they worth the time and money?

I've never seen the SP Series, I feel like I see them more in foreign markets with a blue baffle and they look pretty stout. There's a passive attitude about Marantz Speakers on the forum, these might be from the latter 80's and collectors shy away from them but I think they're made by Marantz of Japan when they were still making the good Marantz Products.

Definately refoam, read all the threads on here, it's not as easy as it sounds, the cone needs to be centered so you don't get coil rub. Value is hard to pin down, they were somewhat expensive when new but they rarely pop up on the forum and don't have a huge following.

sorry to say this but those are all rack system offerings and not worth the effort or expense of restoring. Plastic trim ring and fake lenses are a dead giveaway to mass market low quality products.

You can buy refoam kits for around $30 if you are comfortable doing it yourself. Having a shop do them might cost around double, plus shipping and/or driving time and gas if you can drop them off nearby.
What do you intend to do with them? Going to use them? In that case I guess it depends on what, if any, other speakers you have.
If intending to sell unless they are desirable and/or rare there might not be much profit after refoaming costs.
Like some manufacturers, Marantz made some good electronics, and with a few exceptions which seem well regarded, some ok speakers.

I'd pick up some cheap generic foams from a Chinese eBay seller and call it good. They're not great speakers but would be good for a garage or workshop system. If you're just looking to flip them, save your time.

As others have said, they are probably not worth much if you are looking to make money on flipping them. However, they might make good practice speakers if you think you might refoam more speakers in the future.

I don't anything about the later series, I thought they might be better than rack system stuff. They were $500 USD list price for two when they came out and weight 50 lbs each. Marantz had similar speakers like the UNIX KS-300 (super rare) and the Marantz LS-17 around this time, I've never run across any of them.
