MARANTZ SR 6000 worth a buy?

MARANTZ SR 6000 worth a buy(50 bucks)?

hey,i found a marantz sr 6000 from a local on craigslist selling it for 50 bucks, cash only and will include spec sheet and owners manual. thing tho tuner dial light is out and owner thinks tape 1 may not be working. selling as is.

dial i assume is a easy fix but what about if tape monitor 1 section not functioning? what can be the problem? cosmetically it's in fantastic condition. just few minor issues i do not know about.

i was saving up for headphones but from my understanding it's one of the last ''true'' marantz around before selling there name to phillips and love vintage gear a lot. is it worth the hassle?

Those are still pretty decent receivers, not quite up to the 22xx series but still respectable. The tape 1 issue may just be dirty contacts, you may be able to spray deoxit in them and work them 20-30 times, more if you don't get bored or, you may have to disassemble the switches to clean them thoroughly. You don't get the blue dial lights but it should be a good sounding unit and probably worth the $50 if you don't have to spend much to get it working up to snuff.

dial light is easy to replace? i been collecting and using vintage gear after i fell in love with a 1976 craig h500 am/fm stereo receiver i was given by my uncle. currently using a 70's kenwood kr-720 stereo receiver/amp and love it. heard a lot about marantz and how legendary their sound is and want to see for myself. just was concerned about the tape input but from what you explained it should be easy if that's all i need to do.

thanx for the info. much appreciate it. i'll contact the guy see if he tested the tape 1 section again and so forth.

I don't think the lamp is any too difficult to change. I have an SR 4000 and I believe it just has one lamp attached to the tuner indicator so the light travels back and forth with that. Don't know if the 6000 is the same but shouldn't be to bad to change.
