Looks like I'm gonna end up with some B&W DM600S3s for my desktop speakers...
while I love my Sherwood S-7300, I'm concerned it may not have the oomph for B&W (which are rumored to be power hungry).
Looking around, I've found that both Yamaha and Marantz have very good reputations in their more modern receivers. I'm predisposed not to like modern DSP/5.1 type units you see at big box stores.
I like heavy, warm, tubey, vintage stuff but I'm broke.
That said, some of the older late 90s/early 2000s units look interesting: low THD, good SNR, lots of power, high price tag at the time from a company with a good reputation, and made in Japan? Sounds awesome! But are they?
How would a Marantz (or even Yamaha/Onkyo/et al) 5.1 type AV / surround receiver work out for just 2-channel stereo music only?
The SR-96 series had stellar reviews on some sites from back in the day.
I'm just wondering if some of these old AV units might be sleepers as music-only/stereo-only amp setups?
Or is there a better way to go about this?
