Replacement for Marantz 2275 Amp Board Bias Transistor 2SC496 (H709)

Hi folks. I have seen a couple different suggestions of different subs for the Marantz 2275 bias transistor, the 2SC496 at H709. No one seems to be mentioning the MJE243G, but I have seen that used to replace the 2SC496 on other Marantz gear. Is that an appropriate sub for the 2275? I know...

As per @catrafter the best sub is 2SC495. RF Parts used to carry it but they seem to be out. There are some on ebay that look legit from the pictures but as usual exercise caution.

I just successfully used MJE243G at H714/H715 in a 2325

I used your list on my marantz 2215b and replaced a 2sc1384 with a ksc2690 and what a disaster it blew both of the power transistors on the heat sink. I put the 2sc1384 back in and replace the two transistors and it worked fine and the same thing happened to youtube channel auh-fix-it I don't think it is a good substitute

Were the pinouts the same?

Working on a 2226B, and wish I had seen your transistor sub list earlier!

FWIW, here are the subs I've done so far:

Output drivers:
  • 2sc1509 to Ksc2690 (different from your list, the TO-126 worked fine for this)
  • 2sa777 to Ksa1220 (same as your list, TO-126)

For the outputs themselves, I wanted to stay with TO-220s since they were the closest physically to the old WM20 packages used on these.
  • 2sd587 to MJE15032 (your list has 15030, very similar)
  • 2sb617 to MJE15033 (your list has 2STA1694 in a TO-3, which would have been a tougher mounting challenge)
Both of the MJEs had the same pinouts and were pretty easy to mount in place of the old big-wing XM20s

So far, I have been pushing the receiver to check heat rise in the outputs, and it seems to be working fine and sounds great!

These older models don't work well for this list. I would suggest starting a new thread in the Marantz forum with a title like "Model 19/20 transistor sub?". That will give you more visibility and be more likely to attract someone with experience with those models.

So many times I go searching for replacements for old transistors to find that many of the suggested replacements have been OOP for 20+ years. Probably because whomever is making the suggestion has been at this for 20+ years and still has a ton of the old parts!

Nice to see a list that you can go straight to Digikey or Mouser with.
